Bonnyville RCMP on scene of serious motor vehicle collision – Update

Bonnyville, Alta. – Highway 55 is currently open to one lane while clean up crews are still on scene. The clean up is anticipated to take a few more hours. Traffic is asked to slow their speeds around clean up and emergency crews for everyone’s safety. Bonnyville RCMP would like to thank the public for their cooperation while emergency crews responded to this fatal collision. For the latest road updates, consult Alberta 511.

On May 15, 2026, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Bonnyville RCMP members responded to a serious collision involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck with an empty trailer, on Highway 55, near Range Road 480. Preliminary investigation reveals it was a head on collision involving these two vehicles. The sole driver of the pickup truck, a 35-year-old resident of Cold Lake, succumbed to their injuries and was declared deceased on scene. The sole driver of the semi-truck, a 39-year-old resident of Cold Lake, was assessed on scene by medical crews for non-life-threatening injuries and attended to a hospital for further medical services. 

Bonnyville RCMP were assisted by Alberta RCMP’s Real Time Operation Centre, an RCMP Collision Analyst, Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority, Associated Ambulance (Bonnyville), and Cold Lake RCMP, while Bonnyville Community Peace Officers and Emcon Services Inc assisted with traffic control.
